To register for several courses and receive one invoice, use the Register for Multiple CCDI Trainings option for members or for non-members.
Most single-day courses will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., while boot camp courses continue into the evening and require overnight stays (included in the price). For exact times, please see registration forms.
Registration must be completed (and paid in full) by two weeks prior to each course.

** Part One of CEDAM’s Advocacy Day Training
Each year, Michigan Nonprofit Association hosts an all-day event for nonprofits, focusing on advocacy and other issues related to nonprofits. This conference includes plenary presentations, lunch with legislators and breakout sessions on target issues. Anyone who plans to attend Nonprofit Advocacy Day in November should attend the nonprofit lobbying workshop at this event. You will learn what actions you can and cannot take when influencing policy issues, along with valuable strategies for making your points and advancing your cause.
Nonprofit Advocacy Day (Part Two) (register by October 14)

Duration: Half-day (breakfast provided; lunch not provided)
Cost: $25 CEDAM members, $125 non-members
Location: Capitol Building, Lansing
Make your voice heard in Lansing. Join CEDAM members and other nonprofits from around the state at the Capitol for a lobbying and networking morning. You will attend an issue briefing on a topic of your choice, learning the latest details on bills that affect your work (possible topics include housing, asset building, transportation, rural Michigan, arts & culture, and health). Then, you'll have the opportunity to meet with your state representative and senator to advocate for your interests. In addition to advancing your cause and gaining hands-on lobbying experience, you'll have the opportunity to network with others who share your concerns.
Note: This event will NOT include an extensive training on nonprofit advocacy rules and strategies. You are highly encouraged to attend the nonprofit lobbying workshop on September 29. If you do not attend Part 1, materials will be available for you to review.
Get Your Financial House in Order: Preparing the “Ask” (register by November 22)

Get the inside scoop from banking industry experts on how to prepare a successful grant or loan request. Through this training, you will learn what information funders are looking for, be prepared to answer questions that they typically want to know and learn tips on how to make your “ask” as compelling as possible. Show Me the Money: Innovative Tactics to Help Families Build Financial Security (register by November 22)

This session will highlight innovative best practices from across the state and nation for implementing financial education programs, providing clients access to quality financial products and service, and helping families and individuals to save and build wealth. Learn how to incorporate savings and wealth building components into various programs and services you provide or to improve the asset building programs your organization may already sponsor. The training will also provide effective networking and peer learning opportunities and will feature programmatic strategies you can use this coming tax season to help clients effectively use their tax refund to improve their financial security. One Million Dollars! How to Grab Your Audience’s Attention to Effectively Market Your Programs (register by February 28)

Navigating the world of modern communications can be overwhelming and time consuming. Effectively reaching your target audience and actually getting their attention is a constant challenge. This session will share strategies for comprehensive and creative engagement for marketing your programs and communicating your mission. Participants will also learn storytelling and video techniques. Learn from experts how to frugally and effectively capitalize on your greatest asset (the stories of the incredible work you are doing).
Manage Your Stage Fright so it Won’t Manage You (register by February 29)

Prepare to overcome your fears about public speaking. Whether presenting at an annual meeting, talking to the media, or giving a presentation to a funder, public speaking can be a difficult and nerve-wracking task. This unique, interactive and hands-on experience allows you to overcome your fears, improve your skills and have the public persona that enables you to proudly represent your organization.
Real Estate Development Boot Camp: Commercial and Residential (register by April 20)
Date: May 8-11, 2012
Trainers: Center for Community Progress, Grau Interpersonal Communications
Duration: Four days, three nights
Cost: $550 CEDAM members, $1,250 non-members (single rooms are an extra $200)
Location: Faholo Conference Center, 3000 Mt. Hope Rd., Grass Lake, MI 49240
Part intensive training and part invigorating retreat, this session will leave you with a thorough understanding of the real estate development process and energized to take on the work. This training will provide the opportunity to learn the process of developing single-family and multi-family residential housing OR the process for developing Commercial real estate (there will be separate tracks for both curriculum). The training will include sources of financing, pro-forma development, legal issues, working with land banks, place-making, main streets and comprehensive community development within the context of Michigan's market realities. High ropes course, yoga and networking opportunities will also be a part of this unique and intense four-day training.
This training is intended for a beginner or intermediate level of understanding of the real estate development process. The cost for attendance covers training, lodging, activities and meals. You must attend the entire training, including the overnight stays.
Working with Challenging Populations (register by May 1)

People that present challenges to community development professionals – the homeless, troubled youth, prostitutes, etc. – are often held back by subconscious belief systems. In this training, hear from the creator of an exciting new program: The Lies that Bind: The Legacy of the Locks. This program works to assess a person’s underlying belief system and gives them the tools to reprogram the way they think and find success in life. This program has been presented across the state, including at the Michigan Conference on Affordable Housing, to rave reviews from practitioners.
Keep it Real: Strategies for Authentically Engaging Your Community (register by May 2)

This special CCDI session will discuss strategies for effectively engaging community members, challenging populations and neighborhood groups in pursuit of mutual goals.
