JUNE 2011

  • FINSC Foreclosure Event June 15: We're forwarding here information [PDF] about FINSC's upcoming foreclosure event in Clinton Township. Please help then garner a good turnout by spreading the word. (6/11/11)

  • RFP for Foreclosure Prevention Corps Host Sites [PDF]: We're happy to announce that once again this year the MFTF will be able to place twenty AmeriCorps members working in the Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Corps in host sites around Michigan. The RFP for those host sites is attached. Please also note that applicants must be HUD and/or MSHDA-certified housing agencies but that we are encouraging  applying agencies to partner with other non-profit organizations (such as County Treasurer's Offices, etc.) that are involved in foreclosure prevention work for the purposes of sharing  the services of the AmeriCorps member and maximizing the impact those services have on at-risk homeowners. Levin's office (5/26/11). The purpose of the workshop is to provide information on how to start a nonprofit,  the federal and state requirements that established nonprofits need to fulfill in order to keep their nonprofit status and the resources are available to build the organization’s capacity.   • Housing Counseling Agency funding opportunity: private to MFTF members. (5/20/11)
  • The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) needs your feedback! [deadline has passed] Please take the time to read the email forwarded here and weigh in on mortgage foreclosure forms using their web based tool. The goal is to simplify these forms to reduce deception and confusion in the mortgage disclosure process. We encourage you to do your part in making this happen. (5/20/11)
  • Fact Sheet on HUD Housing Counseling [PDF]: This is an excellent resource you can use in making this case to our elected officials in Washington that we need both HUD's Housing Counseling Assistance Program (HCAP) and the NFMC funding stream to fund a system of high quality housing counseling that can both deal with the existing foreclosure crisis and prevent it from happening in the future.   • Southwest Housing Solutions in Detroit has partnered with Fannie Mae [PDF] as their dedicated Mortgage Help Network provider for Michigan.  This will allow for faster resolutions for Agencies who are working with Homeowners struggling to save their homes from foreclosure. This is good news for all of us! (5/13/11)
  • Foreclosure Scam Session videos (5/2/11): Here is the link to the new foreclosure scam session videos sponsored by Michigan’s Voices for Action (Region 7), NeighborWorks, and the Michigan Foreclosure Taskforce.  A special thanks to all those who participated on the panels to bring this essential information to our communities.

  • Important 90-Day Law Survey [link unavailable] (3/29/11): The process for determining the future of Michigan's 90-Day Mandatory Pre-Foreclosure Law (due to sunset in July) is in now in motion and we need as many HUD and/or MSHDA-certified housing counseling agencies and foreclosure counselors as possible to weigh in on its value and effectiveness. IF YOU ARE A HUD and/or MSHDA certified foreclosure counselor or administer for the foreclosure counseling program in your agency, please click here [survey is closed] to complete a brief Multiple Choice Survey that will take you less than 10 minutes.

  • Free Certified Housing Counselors Meet Lenders Face to Face (2/9/11): The Foreclosure Intervention & Neighborhood Stabilization Collaborative of South East Michigan (FINSC) sponsored a free event for Homeowners in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb & Washtenaw Counties on Friday, Feb. 18th from 10-7 at the Masonic Temple in Detroit.

  • Congressional Letter to Secretary Geithner re: Changes to HAMP [3.3MB PDF] (11/17/10): A number of Senators recently submitted a letter to Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner describing concerns with the recent robo-signing scandal and encouraging changes to HAMP. 
  • MFTF Op-Ed Piece on Hardest Hit Funds (11/15/10): The Detroit Free Press and the Oakland Press published an op-ed piece by Lisa Nuszkowski, Director of the Michigan Foreclosure Task Force, encouraging major lenders, servicers, and investors to participate in Michigan’s Hardest Hit Funds.
