CEDAM Membership: CDC Definition
Some Practitioner members of CEDAM are considered Community Development Corporations (CDCs).
In accordance with CEDAM's by-laws, only CDC members may hold or vote for positions as regional CDC Board Members on CEDAM's Board of Directors.
To determine whether your organization is a CDC under CEDAM's b-laws, please consult the following definition:
Section 6.03 CDC. A Community Development Corporation ("CDC") shall be defined as a Michigan nonprofit corporation that has qualified as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization as defined by the Code, involved in planning and implementing community housing and economic development activities, projects and programs in its community. In addition, a CDC should align with the Corporation's mission and engage in some or all of the following activities:
a. Obtain resident input into the planning and implementation of projects, programs and activities in the community it serves;
b. Foster the self-empowerment and self-reliance of communities and residents through participatory processes;
c. Support the building of indigenous leadership and the development of resident leaders to actively participate in the planning and implementation of projects, programs and activities in the community;
d. Help the community served build its ownership of physical and monetary assets in order to enable residents to escape poverty; or
e. Advocate on behalf of the low- and moderate-income community it serves.
