Q&A with Kaitlynn:
What drives your passion for neighborhood/community and economic development?
I believe that socioeconomic status shouldn’t dictate a persons opportunity to live in a healthy and sustainable city. It’s inspiring to imagine the potential that neighborhoods have to be the catalyst towards sustainable living.
Why do you love Michigan?
The loyalty and perseverance of our citizens. Whether it’s the continued support of our sports teams or the small hush that falls over your car when a Pure Michigan commercial comes on the radio, citizens of Michigan remain loyal to our state despite the hardships that we’ve faced in recent decades. It’s amazing to travel from a vibrant city to a peaceful spot on Lake Michigan in just a few hours - it reflects the real nature of what it is to live in Michigan.
How do your family and/or community inspire your work?
Despite living in a well-developed area, I never experienced a sense of community while growing up in suburbia. I hope that I can bring that sense of community back to my hometown and instill a greater sense of attachment and pride in my own neighborhood.
What do you do in your free time (if it exists!)?
Between school, working, interning and planning for MSUMUN - free time isn’t something I’m used to. When I do get a moment to myself, I enjoy volunteering with the Greater Lansing Food Bank, reading, baking and drinking a TON of coffee.
